Hey everyone,
Summer is pretty much here, so the latest Revver Film School project is to make a video about Summer.
The 5 most-watched videos will be featured in the Head of the Class featured collection, a blog post on the Revver Blog, and a dashboard message sent to all users! Tag your videos “rfs summer†(in quotes, space included) to submit them for class. The deadline for submissions is Friday, June 15, which means that you've got one lazy month to get this done. Only videos submitted on or after today, May 15 are eligible for being featured. _________________ overandout |

| Okay, movies have always been a passion of mine and I want to pursue a directing career. I finished high school but I'm in this work-study program until I'm 21, so I'm sort of still in school even though I graduated. Anyway, the problem is through out my time in school, I was in learning-support classes and I was steered away from getting into some sort of school/college. How can I get into film school for directing? |

Well, don't send your application to the Revver Film School... (RFS was a fun but relatively short-lived "contest" on Revver. Personally I'd like to see it return.)
One take on film school is that "Film School is a SCAM!!!!" {ahem...} I do tend to think that getting out and doing can be more important than sitting in a class and (ostensibly) learning. If academic doors seem closed to you, don't give up, just make your own opportunity. Not to sound too much like Horatio Alger ("luck, pluck, and courage" and all that), but there is a lot of opportunity available to you without needing grades and instructor approval. You just need to go get it.
As a related example, one of the criticisms I've regularly heard about online photography schools (e..g, NYIP) is that, really, the main benefit you get from them is confidence, because the rest of it -- from the technical know-how to valuable critique of your work -- is available for free either online or at your local library. Even the "press pass" isn't worth much, and (in fact) the "red carpet" program from Shutterstock might open more doors (with earnings to follow). And as for confidence, that certainly doesn't have to come from a class either -- you can build your own with increasing successes in your field of interest.
So while this doesn't directly answer your question, hopefully it'll motivate you to move forward with your passion! _________________ Stuart / JPPI
